Keith
Daye (Graduate)
“When
I walked through the front door of Helping Up Mission in 1997, I had
no intentions of staying. Today…I thank God for leading me there…it
changed my life! God delivered me out of a 25-year addiction. I graduated
from the Spiritual Recovery Program in 1998…and have been clean
ever since. Rightfully, I should have been dead and gone a long time
ago…but grace and mercy have given me another chance. If anyone
is struggling with addiction…the first place I tell them to
go is 1029 East Baltimore Street. I tell them to sit still…and
let God work in your life.” |

“I
would like to believe that I am responsible for the changes in my
life, but I’m not. It is God working through Helping Up Mission
that has brought me to this point.” True recovery is not just
about abstinence from drugs…it’s about total transformation
and learning to live a life of joyful obedience to God. In Christ,
I have found happiness that I never knew existed.” |

“Helping
Up Mission is not just a recovery center…it’s a delivery
center. Once you’re here, God ‘delivers’ you from
drugs. I feel different on the inside…and it’s hard to
explain what’s in my heart. There is no longer an emptiness.
I found what I have been looking for…and it is Christ Jesus.” |

“I was so dangerous and had
so many enemies that I only went out on the streets between midnight
and 6 a.m. to avoid getting innocent people around me killed. I
arrived at Helping Up Mission with a thug mentality. But after two
months of classes, I started to become a different person. God put
my life back in order. I’ve learned how to be humble…
how to reach out and give to other people. Now I have the opportunity
to truly be myself, and not have to prove my manhood or my strength
and position.” |

“I’ve been thanking God
ever since the day I arrived at Helping Up Mission. I have hope
now…something I’ve never had before. I know that God
cares about me. I don’t fear my future anymore. I used to
use drugs to destroy my life…now, I lean on God to restore
my life.”

“My life is changed. This is
the longest period of time that I have been clean in 26 years. I
am getting better, and it’s because I believe in Jesus and
love Him. I don’t know what’s in store for me, but I
do know that if I work on being the best man I can be in Christ,
everything will work out. God, through the Mission, reaches out
to those who cannot control themselves in their addiction, and saves
their lives.”

“I
graduated from the Spiritual Recovery Program this past October. I
am employed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. I feel good about what
I’m doing. I feel good that Christ is in my life. You know just
for me to walk up on that stage and get my certificate it meant a
lot to me. I will never forget that day. I’ll always cherish
that moment.” |
